03 ICOSIM Weekly – Read about the new measurement unit “TAU” for bone density measurement with CaviTAU!

Dear ICOSIM Colleagues,

Today I would like to invite you to an excursion into the clinical possibilities of CaviTAU®:

The wonderful software feature of CaviTAU® to be able to numerically assign each of the 91 sensor elements opens up a completely new unit of measurement – comparable to the Hounsfield Units HU – for the objective determination of bone density in the jaw.

We call this new unit of measurement “TAU”.

Curious? This LINK will take you to the teaching unit as a PDF.

I would be happy to hear about the experiences and further suggestions of our CaviTAU® users.

With best ICOSIM greetings
Your Hans Lechner

02. ICOSIM Weekly – 9 patient cases from our practice

Dear ICOSIM Colleagues,

We are in the fortunate position to present you with unique image documentation of fatty degenerative osteolysis/osteonecrosis of the jawbone (FDOJ).

  • With this LINK you have access to the image documentation of 9 intraoperatively obtained FDOJ pathologies in patients with Atypical Facial Pain / Trigeminal Neuralgia and
  • with evidence of inadequate radiographic imaging in OPG and DVT, and
  • with histological findings and some
  • RANTES/CCL5 expression levels in the FDOK areas.

The specimens were all from affected individuals with Atypical Facial Pain/Trigeminal Neuralgia.

The images thus prove the pathogenetic existence of a FDOK with special formation of a “NICO” (Neuralgia Inducing Cavitational Osteonecrosis) in these cases.

In the hope to be able to support you collegially with it,
I remain until the next ICOSIM-Weekly

Your Hans Lechner

Local RANTES/CCL5 expression in ‘silent inflammation’ of the jawbone and system networking – is there a link between jawbone interference field and organ disease?

The etiology of chronic immuno-inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, tumours and arteriosclerosis is not fully understood. It is generally acknowledged that several factors are interlinked in the development of these diseases, including genetic disposition and factors such as nutrition and environment. Given that holistic dentistry has always suffered a lack of explanatory models accepted by mainstream schools of thought, evidence of the overexpression of the inflammatory chemical messenger RANTES/CCL5 in the jaw is a great advance. A literature search in Google Scholar demonstrates the massive pathogenetic involvement of local RANTES/CCL5 overexpression in the jawbone in almost all chronic conditions.

Definition of osteoblasts and adipocytes in the bone marrow

The translation and labelling of illuminating passages from the following article outline, in my opinion, the essence of the problem of fatty-degenerative osteonecrosis in the jawbone (FDOJ): the misdirected adipogenesis in the bone marrow of the jaw as a prerequisite for overexpressed RANTES/CCL5 signalling. I would like to make this illuminating investigation available to ICOSIM members; the essential passages are marked.

Sincerely,

J. Lechner
