In our last Weekly, we highlighted the fantastic opportunity to gain previously impossible insights into osteoimmunology with CaviTAU<\/span>\u00ae<\/sup>. Here is an excerpt from our scientific study in the Journal of <\/span>International Medical Research (PubMed indexed) <\/b><\/span>on:<\/span><\/p>

Osseointegration and osteoimmunology in implant dentistry:\u00a0<\/span>Evaluation of immunologic sustainability of dental implants using\u00a0<\/span>modern sonographic diagnostics.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Solid implant attachment, marginal mucositis and peri-implantitis are easy to evaluate diagnostically. However, this does not apply to <\/span>osteoimmune processes in the hidden area of para-implant osseointegration<\/b><\/span>. To our knowledge, we are the first to be able to prove the following on the basis of our data:<\/span><\/p>

The problem:<\/b> Bone marrow defects of the jaw (BMDJ) in the vicinity of dental implants in combination with impaired bone-to-implant contact (BIC) are difficult to detect on radiographs and have therefore been little studied.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

So, using\u00a0<\/span><\/span>CaviTAU<\/span>\u00ae<\/span>\u00a0and the CTU ultrasound measurement unit<\/b> (see previous ICOSIM Weekly), we investigate BMDJ around titanium (Ti-Impl) and ceramic (Cer-Impl)<\/b> implants and clarify the role of osteoimmunology in the development of incomplete BIC. Can the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>CaviTAU<\/span>\u00ae<\/span>\u00a0ultrasound device accurately assess and compare the osseointegration of Ti-Impl and Cer-Impl with precise numerical scaling<\/b> of BIC?<\/span><\/span><\/p>

a) The previously neglected reduced bone-to-implant contact (BIC) and <\/span>partially failed osseointegration can be detected by measuring the para-implant bone density<\/b> with\u00a0<\/span>CaviTAU<\/span>\u00ae<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

b)\u00a0<\/span><\/span>CaviTAU<\/span>\u00ae<\/span>measurements for Cer-Impl CTU values are higher than those for Ti-Impl. Cer-Impl show significantly better long-term osseointegration compared to Ti-Impl.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>

c) The use of Cer-Impl instead of Ti-Impl does not generally exclude the <\/span>possibility of impaired osseointegration.<\/b><\/p>

d) For this reason, the evaluation of bone density and bone metabolism in the selected alveolar region should be performed prior to implantation with\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>CaviTAU<\/span>\u00ae<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/b>regardless of the choice of implant material.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

e) Implantation in osteoimmunologically unstressed alveolar bone<\/strong> assessed with CaviTAU\u00ae appears to be the key factor for successful osseointegration<\/b> and long-term osteoimmune sustainability of dental implants.<\/span><\/p>

f) Analysis of areas with incomplete BIC shows <\/span>local overexpression of RANTES\/CCL5<\/b><\/span>, which may have systemic consequences and inflammatory disease[15].<\/span><\/p>

The results of our combined diagnostic (Ti-Stim and CTU) and pathogenetic (RANTES\/CCL5) findings support<\/b><\/span><\/p>

1) the consistent use of Cer-Impl and
<\/span>2) the pre- and post-implant metrological use of ultrasound sonography with CaviTAU\u00ae in dental implantology.<\/span><\/b><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
