About ICOSIM<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The International College of Maxillo-mandibular Osteoimmunology is a community of interest of practitioners that researches the interplay between the jawbone, bone marrow and the immune system \u2014 on a sound scientific basis and without commercial aims.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

A professional society for a young field of research<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

ICOSIM \u2014 International College of Maxillo-mandibular Osteoimmunology \u2014 was founded in Munich on 21 January 2015 and is entered as a registered association in the Munich Register of Associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The association is a community of interest of practitioners and pursues no commercial aims. ICOSIM does not compete with existing societies but cooperates with medical and dental organisations that have comparable systemic-integrative objectives \u2014 among them DEGUZ, GZM, IAOMT and ZAEN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its main focus is the research and further development of a holistic-integrative treatment approach developed by Dr. Lechner, Prof. J. Bouquot and many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four key tenets of Maxillo-mandibular Osteoimmunology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The work of the association is based on four fundamental scientific assumptions, which are continually reviewed in publications and application studies.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

01<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bone marrow defects are immunologically active<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Bone marrow defects, which have so far received little attention, are a source of dysregulated expression patterns of certain cytokines and are therefore immunologically active. The focus is on the cytokines IL-1ra, MCP-1\/CCL2 and, in particular, RANTES\/CCL5.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Overexpression of RANTES\/CCL5<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A number of autoimmune diseases \u2014 for example sarcoidosis, multiple sclerosis and Lyme borreliosis \u2014 are attributed to the overexpression of the pro-inflammatory chemokine RANTES\/CCL5.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Limitations of radiographic diagnostics<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Conventional radiographic techniques show these bone marrow defects only to a limited extent. ICOSIM therefore supports the development of more advanced ultrasound diagnostics.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Implants and root-canal-treated teeth in focus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Maxillo-mandibular Osteoimmunology also considers implants and endodontically treated teeth as possible triggers of systemic diseases.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Member of the Scientific Council collaborates on a specific scientific project. Specific projects to be addressed by a working group may be proposed to the Board by the active members and are decided upon by the Board and the Executive Council. The composition of the project group, the work content and the timing are submitted together with the proposal to the Board and the Executive Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
